Simplify by combining like terms. 8b + 2c + 3 - 4b + 5c Oh! Also, can someone explain what 'like terms' mean in the easiest way possible?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like terms are terms with the same variables like x, y , b so lets start by combining the terms with b 8b-4b=4b So now we have 4b+2c+3+5c. Can you determine the next like term, and combine it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhm, let me try? So, its basically saying '8-4=4' Example saying, just forget about the letters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it's just like subtracting regular numbers, but when you get the answer, remember to put the letter next to it.

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. So do you know what you're final answer for that question will be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should be 4b + 7c + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's right. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
