help please I give metals Simplify (3 + 6i) − (8 − 5i) −5 + i 6 16 −5 + 11i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's first get rid of the paranthesis. We have to multiply 8-5i by -1, since there's a negative sign. 3+6i -8 +5i Combine the like terms -5 + 11i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5+11i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain it to me by steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the answer 3 + (6 * i) - 8 + (5 * i) = -5 + 11 i

There aren't any more steps, but I'll try to explain it better. (3+6i) -(8-5i) Okay, see the second part? -(8-5i) This can also be written as -*(8-5i) When there's no number in front of the negative sign, it is treated as 1. These are basic math rules. So -1*(8-5i) What's -1 times that? Well, you have to multiply both the 8 and the -5i by -1. That gives you -8+5i. Now let's put it back in the original equation 3+6i-8+5i Notice how I got rid of the first paranthesis without doing anything, because, remember the last rule? 1*(3+6i) ends up being whatever is in the paranthesis already. Then you do 3-8, since those are both numbers, and 6i+5i since those are both the same thing, or i's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1(3+6i)-1(8-5i) so divide all the stuff on outside of parenthesis and you will get 3+6i-5i and add the alikes together you get 5=11i

Treat different variables, such as x, i, and y, as little tags that go along with the numbers. These tags make them only interact with eachother, and not other tags. Makes sense?

yeah thank here i Give you a metal
