Triangle EFG has coordinates E (0, 0) F (4, 5) G (5, 0). A dilation with a scale factor of 2 about center (0, 0) has occured. What are the coordinates of F’?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answers- (2, 2.5) , (2,3) , (8,10) , (6,7)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

When it says "A dilation with a scale factor of 2 about center (0, 0) has occured" that just means that each coordinate was multiplied by 2 to make the overall figure enlarge.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so for example, if we had a point (3,9) then dilating it with a scale factor of 2 would mean x = 3 jumps to 3*2 = 6 y = 9 becomes 9*2 = 18 so (3,9) ----> (6,18) after applying the dilation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand what you said, but im still confused;/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is point F

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait! 8,10? is that the answer?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you nailed it, nice work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much :-)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

(8,10) actually, but you have the right idea

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
