Complete the function table. y = -x + 1 Is this a proportional relationship?
is this a proportional relationship? Well, you can tell it's NOT "Direct Variation" because it has a y-intercept that goes through other point than the origin (the (0,0) ). However it is linear.
@SolomonZelman So it's not a proportional relationship and what's the answers in the graph so I can understand.
input rule output ordered pair x=0 y=-(0)-1=-1 -1 (0, 1) x=1 y=-(1)-1=-2 -2 (1, -2) x=2 y=-(2)-1=-3 -3 (2, -3) can you do x=3 ?
Hmm, is it.. "(3,-2)?
not really,\[y=\color{red} {-}(3)-1\]do you see your mistake?
Oh, I see. So is it "(-3, -1)?
no, the x coordinate is 3, because you are plugging x=3, the y coordinate is what?
\[\color{red} {y=-x-1}\]\[\color{red} {y=\color{blue} {-}(3)-1}\]\[\color{red} {y=\color{blue} {-}3-1}\]\[\color{red} {y=\color{blue} {-}4}\]
so it would be\[\huge\color{green}{\huge {\bbox[5pt,yellow,border:2px solid red]{3,~~~-4}}}\]
See how I plugged it in?
Yup.
Is it a proportional relationship?
proportional means direct, y=kx is proportional or direct, here it is a linear, but not a proportional.
So not?
Yes, It is NOT proportional.
Thank you so much, this understands me now! (:
