can we 32bit os on 64 bit machine??? OR 64 bit os on 32 bit machine????

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yes and no, in that order some data types on 64 bit machines are the same as the 32 bit versions, but in general 64 bit apps almost always only work on 64 bit machines, whereas 32 bit runs on 64 bit machines just fine

You can also think of it like a measuring cup. If you have a 64 gram measuring cup, there is (usually) no problem pouring a 32 gram cup into it, but you cannot pour a 64 gram cup into a 32 gram cup without there being problems. This is often why newer architectures can be backward compatible.

u can do 32 in a 64bit, but cant do the otherway.. bt still doing 32 in 64 decreases performance..

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In fact, there were 64 bit modes to processors long before 64 bit OSes were the norm. It took many years to get the average user onto a 64 bit OS and many still have not changed even though they are on machines with 64 bit CPUs.

Yes. Very true @e.mccormick.
