The table below shows four systems of equations: System 1 System 2 System 3 System 4 4x − 5y = 2 3x − y = 8 4x − 5y = 2 3x − 8y = 4 4x − 5y = 2 10x − 21y = 10 4x − 5y = 2 10x + 3y = 15

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

System 1 4x − 5y = 2 3x − y = 8 System 2 4x − 5y = 2 3x − 8y = 4 System 3 4x − 5y = 2 10x − 21y = 10 System 4 4x − 5y = 2 10x + 3y = 15

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Which pair of systems will have the same solution? System 1 and system 2, because the second equation in system 2 is obtained by adding the first equation in system 1 to two times the second equation in system 1. System 2 and system 3, because the second equation in system 3 is obtained by adding the first equation in system 2 to two times the second equation in system 2. System 1 and system 2, because the second equation in system 2 is obtained by adding the first equation in system 1 to three times the second equation in system 1. System 2 and system 3, because the second equation in system 3 is obtained by adding the first equation in system 2 to three times the second equation in system 2.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

can you solve each of them? System 1 4x − 5y = 2 3x − y = 8 ----> y=3x-8 SUBSTITUTE. System 2 4x − 5y = 2 ----->times (-3) ----> -12x +15y = -6 3x − 8y = 4 ----->times (4) ----> 12x -32y = 16 add them. System 3 4x − 5y = 2 ----->times (-5) ----> -20x +25y = -10 10x − 21y = 10 ----->times (2) ----> 20x - 42y = 20 add them System 4 4x − 5y = 2 ----->times (-5) ----> - 20x +25y = -10 10x + 3y = 15 ----->times (2) ----> 20x + 6y = 30 add them Just guessing (You are probably thinking that I solved it already)

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I think it is the second one...am i right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Which system of equations will have the same solution? same as what?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I see....

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

have you solved each?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

no...what else do i do to them? just graph them right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

graphing them would be too long for you

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I can solve each one, but I am not supposed to, can you please solve them and tell me what you get?
