The GCF, or greatest common factor of variables is simple. You look at all the variables separately and count them. The lowest number will be your answer for that variable. for example: x x y y y z z AND x x x x z z z look at the x's. x x VS x x x x there are two x's in the left term so the GCF, or your answer, of the x variable will be xx, or x^2 similarly, there are no y's in the right term, so there will be no y variable in the GCF. finally, there are two z's in the left term and three z's in the right term. therefore, there will be two z's in your GCF. the final answer is the compilation of all the above GCF= x x z z
