OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

At 6:00 A.M., there were 800,000 gallons of water remaining in a reservoir. After 8 hours of irrigation, there were 100,000 gallons of water remaining. Write a linear equation that describes the number of gallons of water remaining as a function of the time the field had been irrigated. This was on my last math test. I got y = 87,500x; let y = time, and let x = [Something] (I forgot what I put) Can anyone check if I got the correct answer? If not, then can you please explain!

@undeadknight26

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

i am not sure sorry my friend...

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

That's okay. =/ It's a tricky question, indeed.

hartnn (hartnn):

8750 or 87500 ?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

87,500. I got that number by doing: (800,000-100,000) / 8

hartnn (hartnn):

nvm, thats correct :)

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

I hope so! That question was worth 10 points! Thanks!

hartnn (hartnn):

oh, i meant that slope = 87500 was correct. the equation surely depends on what you have taken for x and y

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Oh. If I got the slope correct, then I should get partial credit. Although, does the equation seems fine?

hartnn (hartnn):

y should not be time x should be time and y should be number of gallons of water

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Oh. My bad. Typo!

hartnn (hartnn):

remember slope = change in y/ change in x so, numerator should be change in y, which is700000 u got

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Thanks!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

You sure are a life saver. ^_^

hartnn (hartnn):

thanks :D
