How many stairs are there or what is the total height the ramp has to cover?

I guess they want you to see that x is the length of the plank for a single stair, so if you had ten stairs, you would have a length of 10 x. you can get x from x^2 = 10^2 + 7^2. after adding these squares get x from the square root of the total x=sqrt(149). That's the length of the needed plank for each stair.
