OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anaphase of mitosis - spindle fibers attach to the centromeres of each chromosome and cause the 2 chromatids to separate and move to opposite poles of the cell. Anaphase 1 of meiosis - Since the chromosome pairs have come together at Metaphase 1 it is the whole chromosomes of each pair which separate to opposite poles of the cell. Prophase is when chromosomes first appear and crossing over takes place at prophase 1 in Meiosis. Metaphase is when chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell.
