i reckon that watering the lawn should be expressed in litres per minute or gallons per minute. then you'd also need to know the surface area being watered in sq metres or sq feet.

to work out the gall/min just read the water meter
to work out the area it would be pi*r^2 where r is the radius (sprinkler at the center)
