revor is tiling his bathroom floor, which has an area that is represented as 175r5 square inches. Each tile has an area of one hundred seventy five r to the fifth power, all over the square root of the quantity sixty four r to the seventeenth power. The total number of tiles used can be represented by the expression below.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 175r^5 }{ 64r^17 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

What is this "r to the fifth" expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay i will show you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{64r^17}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simplify the expression for the total number of tiles used. Show your work.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I have no idea what 64r17 means. 64 times r to the 17th power? If that's the case what is r?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok here let me give you a link it shows 64r17 being split

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

It does not explain what 'r' is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh you need an explanation for r

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Sure - I've never seen anything like it before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm idk what the r means you know how t usually stands for tiles and c means something else but it doesnt say

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Wow I never used 't' for tiles or anything like that. I usually use 'x'.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

And what the hrck would 175r to the fifth power be? What does it mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait a minute are you testing me

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

No - I am not testing you. Basically I'm just trying to understand the question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

It seems as if that question is in another language.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Loll idk flvs is a thing i try to run away from as soon as i finish this class on tuesday im heading straight back to public school

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

What is flvs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Florida Virtual School

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Their teaching philosophy is VERY weird.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know totally different from the way people teach me on OpenStudy

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yes, I like to speak as clearly as possible and not type weird things like 'r to the seventeenth power'.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I'd say that is why you see a LOT of online math and science websites. Some people want to see things in plain English.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

loll

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah when i copied and pasted the question it turned out like that because originally it was an image so when i copied it i guess it reformed

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yes, I'll say. Then again in the link you sent me the discussion there was talking about 'r to the 17th power' as if it was completely logical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

loll yeah

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

By the way you copy graphics and pictures differently than text. (See attached).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh it wasnt like a picture picture it was like a flvs text type of picture it said copy image or save image

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

You mentioned you copied that problem along with the graphics. You must copy graphics separately. oh geez - it was a special FLVS image - well I should have known.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know if i copy the graphics it wont allow me but if i do it with the text it will

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk i just had gotten lazy but I submitted my test and received a 96 :D Thank you, Now on tuesday I have to take the final test i could only hope you'll be here to prep me

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I'll try to be here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You and Directrix dont know how your help helps me to succeed I am horrible at algebra so you guys help me with hints and if you're not there don't sweat it loll thanks for sticking with me tonight have a good night Wolf

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Thanks HelloGoodmorning - that's good to hear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah and No problem I mean it Now have yourself a goodnight

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

and you have a good night too HelloGoodmorning. Think I'll leave OpenStudy now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Loll yeah you should get some rest

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

yes I think so. c ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol C ya
