importance of del operator in physical phenomenon

OpenStudy (kainui):

It's basically used in anything that involves vectors in physics... Which is everything. A good example of this might be Maxwell's equations of electricity and magnetism. Or the Navier-Stokes equation for fluid flow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The del operator when operating on a scalar function gives a vector whose value is the maximum rate of change in the function and the direction of which points in the direction of maximum change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an example of its use is the field strength of a force field is proportional to del of the potential of that field.
