may be this can help im eventually not going to do the problem for you but here is an example that may help 
(2a^2 - a + 6) - (a^2 - 2a + 1) 

2a^2 - a + 6 - a^2 + 2a - 1 

Arrange like with like 

2a^2 - a^2 -a +2a +6 -1 

1a^2 + 1a + 5
