Which of the following is a consumer durable? furniture clothes school supplies gasoline

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durable_good from that link above it says... "Examples of consumer durable goods include cars, household goods (home appliances, consumer electronics, furniture, etc.), sports equipment, firearms, and toys. Nondurable goods or soft goods (consumables) are the opposite of durable goods. They may be defined either as goods that are immediately consumed in one use or ones that have a lifespan of less than 3 years."

Karen bought a dishwasher from a rental center for $650. She makes 16 monthly payments of $63.75 with her credit card. The rental center charges $1.50 for every payment made with a credit card. What is the total cost of the dishwasher? do u think u can help me with this one

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how far did you get here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no where. can u do it with me.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well it says "She makes 16 monthly payments of $63.75 " so how much has she paid so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,020

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea. 1020

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

then it says "The rental center charges $1.50 for every payment made with a credit card" so that means that you make 16*1.50 = 24 dollars in extra fees (sounds unfair, but oh well). Add this to 1020 to get 1020+24 = 1044 So the total cost is $1044

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh wait, that $1.50 could just be a one time fee..hmm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u . im going with 1044 and see if its right? can u help me with one more please

Which of the following is a characteristic of a deferred payment plan? There is an introductory period where no interest is accrued. The item purchased is used as collateral until the balance is paid in full. A down payment is always required. A certain number of payments must be made before the product is owned.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

mathstudent55 i wasn't sure if it was charged at the purchase point or charged for each monthly payment
