Okay well do you know how to solve an equation by using substitution?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No... my math teacher kinda gave up on my class, and she doesn't teach us anymore... but she still gives us the work. -_-
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Well okay, i guess i will teach it to you then!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Lol. Thanks.

The substitution method is used to eliminate one of the variables by replacement when solving equations.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ah. Okay.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1. Solve one of the equations for either "x =" or "y =".
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2. Replace the "y" value in the first equation by what "y" now equals.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3.Solve this new equation for "x".

Got it!?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yeah... I think so.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4. Place this new "x" value into either of the ORIGINAL equations in order to solve for "y".
OpenStudy (anonymous):
5.Check: substitute
