how do you name anions?

OpenStudy (rina.r):

If the anion contains an element plus oxygen they are named ...ate followed by the oxidation state of the non-oxygen element in roman numerals e.g. SO4^2- is sulphate(VI), PO4^3- is phosphate(V), NO2^- is nitrate(III), ClO4^- is chlorate(VII) If the anion contains an element other than oxygen, the name (and number of atoms of ) the element is added before the ..ate e.g. BH4^- is tetrahydridoborate(III), AlH4^- is terahydridoaluminate(III http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080923124950AAb6nls
