Mitochondrion, aka power house of the cell , is a bimembranous organelle found in cellular cytoplasm.
it is responsible for the respiration and the cellular energy i.e. ATP production.

the inner and outer membrane posses channels for passage of ions and are usually known as porins.

the mitochondrion is a semi-autonomous organelle which has its own DNA and synthesizes almost all its required enzymes and proteins.

its genetic code is different from the universal genetic code.

it is found in all eukaryotic cells.
