What is a quadratic function and how do you graph it? Thanks :)
I think it is a parabola which has its center on an axis but I'm not sure... please help :)
you know what a quadratic equation is right?
The quadratic formula or a quadratic equation
a quadratic equation: x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0
you know what a function is correct? like f(x) = x + 1
OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH I have done that stuff before! that one was (x-3)^2!
yes I know what a function is
Okay, good. Let's use the quadratic function: f(x) = x^2
f(x) = y you input values of x to get your value of y. from there you graph it as a parabola.
That's the quadratic function? I thought it was like something plus or minus the square root of something all over 2a?
|dw:1387338487941:dw| this is how f(x) = x^2 would look like (not accurate)
what you are talking about is the quadratic formula. \[\huge x = \frac{ -b \pm \sqrt { b^2 - 4ac} }{ 2a }\]
I know parabolas, I think I just didn't know the terms, but I know how to graph parabolas. Like, that first one you showed me, x^2+6x+9 that would graph a parabola with a zero on the point (3,3)
x^2 + 6x + 9 = f(x) is simply (x+3)^2 = f(x) plug in x values to get your y values and plot the resulting points
wait it would be (-3,-3) then...
f(x) = (x+3)^2 |dw:1387338653075:dw|
