Giving a medal and fan to whoever helps me answer this question; what helped Washington defeated the British at the York town?
Without the French Navy, The Battle of Yorktown would never have occurred. The very reason there was a chance for America and her ally France to win that contest was because the French Naval Commander, Comte de Grasse was able to come to Yorktown (and no farther, because he had to get back to French operations in the Caribbean. For all the world George Washington wanted him to come and help them win back NY but de Grasse didn't want to risk it. Looking back it was a wise decision because General Cornwallis was much more vulnerable at Yorktown than General Clinton was in New York. And ... of course ... it turned out to be the final major battle of the Revolution and the one that finally prompted Great Britain to give up the fight
