I really need some help, A.S.A.P???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following quadratics have the greatest rate of change from x=-3 and x=3? Include the work and answer for each.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

I would find the equation that has the biggest difference in their y-values at x=-3 and then at x=+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is their y- value?

OpenStudy (phi):

in the case of A, it is the 2nd number in the (x,y) pair in the others, you have y = fill in x with -3 and calculate what y is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which (x,y) pair there is two --> (-3, -1) and (3,6)

OpenStudy (phi):

the question asks for the greatest rate of change... think change in y divided by change in x the change in x from -3 to +3 is 6 (for all of the choices) the change in y is the y value at x=3 minus the y value at x=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the change in Y be 5

OpenStudy (phi):

the y change would be 6 - (-1) = 6+1 = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you divide 7 by 6?? Can you tell me what the quadratic equation would be for 'A' please?

OpenStudy (phi):

we could, but will will divide all of the choices by 6. This will not change which changes fastest. so just make a note: choice A has a change in y of 7 now what is the change in y for choice B ?

OpenStudy (phi):

choice B you should find a change of zero now what is the change in y for choice C ?
