help with vectors sum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to sum two vectores and find another one. The first is gravitational acceleration: 9.8m/s 270º The second is unknown but has to be horizontal The resulting one has to have a magnitude of 3.71m/2 How to find the missing values? |dw:1387380544266:dw|

OpenStudy (phi):

in this specific case, your vertical and horizontal vectors form a right angle, and with the 3rd side, a right triangle So you could use pythagoras: a^2 + b^2 = c^2

OpenStudy (phi):

use trig to find the angle... I am not sure which angle you want..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the magnitude of the horizontal component?

OpenStudy (phi):

use pythagoras: a^2 + b^2 = c^2

OpenStudy (phi):

you know 2 out of the 3 sides.
