The pulmonary circulation includes the right side of the heart which pumps blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen and give off carbon dioxide which is then returned to the left side of the heart. The left side of the heart then pumps blood out to the entire body, hence the term systemic circulation. This blood will eventually return to the right side of the heart to start the cycle all over again.
