the rate of change is the same thing as the slope, which in this equation is -2. So I think the rate of change is -2

Simply get the derivative of the function which shows the rate of change.However, in the lines, like your function the instant rate of change is equal to the average rate of change.

well if you take the derivative you would get -2 off of that function, so ya that would be the rate of change
