What is the biological basis of consciousness?

Check out some stuff by René Descartes. She addresses this question often in her works. She believes that the makeup of the mind and the makeup of the brain are completely separate. In decision making, our thoughts trace directly to our actions. The brain, as we all know, has divisions that do different things. There's no direct answer to your question on how consciousness stems from neurons in your brain, however by knowing how the nervous system works, we can assume it's very similar. But your question hasn't been completely answered, at this point we just know that a biological basis of consciousness exists and we also have a few experimental studies done on the subject.
