I get it, I'm getting that sort of spam sometimes too.
like when try helping someone out then another person comes along and either strikes up a conversation or takes over the helping of the question,
but when I'm not needed anymore I go look at other questions, but I'll still get notifications from that one question from before...
and like input questions for example. if you post a comment on the yearbook thread persay then you'll be getting a whole lot of "spam" notifications from the people after you that may be unimportant to you.

Maybe I'm missing something, but can't you just change your settings?
-Settings
-Notification Settings
-Then Select to only receive notifications from people who you've fanned
