MEDAL GIVEN TO CORRECT ANSWER. A water skier is pulled behind a boat by a rope. The rope has a tension of 450 N and is at an angle of 21°. What is the y-component of the tension? A. 213 N B. 420 N C. 450 N D. 161 N

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

I am assuming the angle is in the y-direction. If so, the tension of the rope is the hypotenuse and the y-component is opposite from the angle.

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Thus, sin(21 deg)=y/450

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

and y=450*sin(21 deg)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, it's D?

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Yup :)
