Help With A Small Word Problem MEDALS WILL BE REWARDED!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with what??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the problem

OpenStudy (abdela25):

the debate club needs $240.00 to attend a debate tournament. the club decides to sell cups of iced tea and lemonade at a baseball games. iced tea will be sold for $0.50 per cup and lemonade will be sold for $0.80 per cup

OpenStudy (abdela25):

that is the word problem the questions for it are coming up

OpenStudy (abdela25):

A.) Write an equation to find how many cups of each beverage must be sold to raise $240.00? B.) Graph the equation. What are x- and y-intercepts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say A because it makes sense and A is right :)

OpenStudy (abdela25):

A and B are both questions not choices

OpenStudy (abdela25):

anyone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well then hold on lol??!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on im solving the problem

OpenStudy (abdela25):

arrd sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x = number of cups of iced tea sold and y = number of cups of lemonade sold A) 0.5x + 0.8y = 240 B) x-intercept occurs when y = 0, so 0.5x = 240 x = 480 = number of cups of iced tea to be sold if no lemonade is sold. y-intercept occurs when x = 0 0.8y = 240 y = 300 = number of cups of lemonade to be sold if no iced tea is sold. that's it! ;)

OpenStudy (abdela25):

but thats not an equation thats more of an explanation....but good i needed that too but what would be the equation? and how would i graph it i suck at graphing -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = number of cups of iced tea sold y = number of cups of lemonade sold this is for A) 0.5x + 0.8y = 240 this i for B) x-intercept occurs when y = 0, so 0.5x = 240 x = 480 480= number of cups of iced tea to be sold if no lemonade is sold. y-intercept occurs when x = 0 0.8y = 240 y = 300 300= number of cups of lemonade to be sold if no iced tea is sold. and funny how @evlknvl35 got the same thing i had but in a little different words

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or i got what he had but in a different way which ever way works

OpenStudy (abdela25):

nice job of explaning it but what would be the actual equation....\ and how would i graph it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk @abdela25

OpenStudy (abdela25):

A) is asking only for an equation to find how many cups of each beverage was sold to raise the money i see what you guys did i get it now but B) is asking to graph that equation that was done in A) how do i do that -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yuppers and its the same way I said it lol and just write it the way it is

OpenStudy (abdela25):

yeah i see it now but its like 2 differnt equations for the 2 different drinks how would i graph that equation @evlknvl35 @arabpride @sodukogirl13 @kendallnicole @taffalousswagg_bru

OpenStudy (arabpride):

No. Cups Iced Tea = x No. Cups of Lemonade = y a.) 0.5x + 0.8y = 240 5x + 8y = 2400 8y = - 5x + 2400 y = - 5/8 x + 300 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ b.) x-int.: y = 0: - 5/8 x + 300 = 0 - 5/8 x = - 300 x = - 300 / (- 5/8) x = - 300(- 8/5) x = 2400 / 5 x = 480 x-int. (480, 0) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ y-int.: x = 0: y = - 5/8(0) + 300 y = 300 y-int. (0, 300) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha I sorry @taffalousswagg_bru /there you go

OpenStudy (abdela25):

woah @arabpride your smart thanks !

OpenStudy (arabpride):

lolz Your welcome!!! AnyTime *^.^*

OpenStudy (abdela25):
