What is the solution of |-2x + 5| < 60?

OpenStudy (abdela25):

x will equal more than one solution because it is an absolute value

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Subtract 5 from both side, then divide by 2. Because its negative the sign flips making it greater than

OpenStudy (abdela25):

integer solutions x=+27 x=+26 x=+25 x=+24 x=+23

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

-2 *

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

@abdela25 those are equal signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be |-2x| < 55 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x > -27.5 ?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Thats what I got. And to find the other solution make the 60 negative. |-2x + 5| < -60 -5 -5 -2x < -65

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x < 32.5 ?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

You divided by a negative, so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's both x < 32.5 and x > -27.5 ?
