Melvin is building a castle with a series of towers out of blocks. Each tower has twice as many blocks as the previous tower, and then 3 more. If the first tower has x^2+2x+3 blocks in it, and Melvin builds 5 towers in all, how many blocks will he have used in total?

@math&ing001 can you help me?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Sure what is it ?

Can you reach my question? Maybe if I go there, you can follow me?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

@LovelyAnna go there I'll follow you.

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Ok

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Did you see my question @math&ing001

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Thanks

Welcome !

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

@sirizarry78 sry made a mistake before. It's gonna be 2(x^2+2x+3)+3 for the 2nd tower and 2[ 2(x^2+2x+3)+3]+3 for the 3rd tower.... Number of blocks used for the 5th will look like : 2(2( 2[ 2(x^2+2x+3)+3]+3)+3)+3 You won't have to simplify all that if you see that the factor of x^2 is 2*2*2*2=16

thanks @math&ing001
