well multiply the every term in the 1st equation by 5 and every term in the 2nd equation by 9, and then add them this will eliminate y 40x + 45y = 45 27x - 45y = 180 ------------------ 67x = 225 solve for x by dividing both sides of the equation by 67 when you get x, substitute it into either equation to find y, hope this helps.
