OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what 38% would be as a decimal?

850*.38=323 students.

Don't you love it when people give away answers like candy? *groan*

He asked a question. I answered it.

You should take a peek at the code of conduct before you give any more answers away.

Sometimes people learn best with an example problem. Now, if he has anymore of these problems, he will know how to solve them.

He may not see how you arrived at the answer.

Okay, that is a valid point. Demara, to find a percentage of a whole, you must multiply the whole (in this case, 850 students) by the percentage (in this case, 38%). But, in order to do so, you must first put the percentage in decimal form. To do this, divide 38/100 to get .38. The reason why you divide by 100 is because 100% is a whole (think of grades, if you got 100% on a test, you got the WHOLE test right. if you got a 70% on a test, you got 70% of the total answers (whole) correct.) Now, you can multiply 850 by .38 and you should get 323 students as your answer. So, as previously stated, 850*.38=323.
