To solve for x, we need to follow PEMDAS in reverse to undo everything. 5x + 8 > –12 5x + 8-8 > –12-8 ... Subtract 8 from both sides. 5x + 0 > -20 5x > -20 5x/5 > -20/5 ... Divide both sides by 5. 1x > -4 x > -4
