I'm making a comic book/written story (not sure exactly which one yet) and I need ideas on characters. I need some ideas for really bad, life scarring events that might turn a characters heart cold. I also need some help on coming up with "superpowers" (special abilities) that are seldom used in movies or books or comics today... Ideas?

Well, what do you think would be some scarring events? Probably in seeing things that are traumatic, for one, be this something related to homicide or something else. I think superpowers are interesting and don't have to be really conventional - anything, if you take it to an extent, can be totally weird and awesome. Like, let's say .. bubbles. Bubbles are harmless, but what if a character could blow bubbles that could encapsulate things? Or they could use it underwater as a breathing mechanism or in high altitudes, etc.
