Mikey is reading a 464-page book. Today he started reading on page 97; he had started reading last week. If he reads for x hours at 21 pages per hour, which equation represents how long it will take him to finish the book? 21x - 97 = 464 21x + 464 = 97 97x + 21 = 464 21x + 97 = 464
Ooh yay I was mentioned! Okay well at first you should be able to identify that it is equal to 464 because that is the total amount.
By reading further, I am able to tell that 97 is a constant. This means that a x will not be multiplied to the 97. The x will be multiplied to the 21 because that is dependent and a rate.
The choices comes down to either A or D The reason I know it is D is because of this: When I subtract both sides by 97, I will get 97 subtracted from the total. This is accurate because those pages have already been covered.
wow that actually makes sense im actually understanding this thanks @KirbyLegs
