D. f(x) = –4x

OpenStudy (ranga):

The first function is quadratic because of the x^2 term. It is a parabola. The second term can be simplified to: 2x + 1/2 which is linear (because there is an x in the denominator we have to mention the function is not defined for x = 0 but it is a straight line for all other x values). The third and fourth are linear because of the x term and so they are all straight lines except the quadratic.
