Write a function rule for the following relation: {(1, 3), (2, 4), (3, 5), (4, 6), (5, 7)}. Graph the function. Write a paragraph describing how you found the function rule for the relation. Include whether or not the function is linear or nonlinear and how you know.
The y-value is always two more than the x-value in those 5 data points from which you can formulate the function rule.
what does that mean it clearly says right a function rule
You can say y-value is two more than the x-value. y = x + 2
ohhhh okay i gotchu so could that be or a function rule ?
Yeah. To write a paragraph they are asking for: You could just say that you looked at the first data point (1,3) and noticed y is 2 more than x. You also noticed that y is three times x. So you looked at the next point (2,4) and noticed once again y is two more than x. For the second point, y was not three times the x-value as it was with the first point and so you had to drop that pattern. Then you looked at the rest of the data points and each time the y-value was always two more than the x-value. And so that is the function rule: y is two more than x.
okay i undertsand i actually have three more like this. thank you for actually explaining the problem with the answer!!!! thanks a lot really.
@ranga was it a linear or nonlinear ?
It is linear. y is two more than x can be represented by the equation y = x + 2 which is a straight line. Therefore, it is a linear function.
