Equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Add the equations together and solve for y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well im getting the answer A or B

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Don't guess, do the work.

OpenStudy (shamil98):

and those are both wrong.

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

See that -3 and 3 cancel out? Then just add -12 + 2 = -10y 9 + 8 = 17 -10y = 17 /-10 /-10 y = ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not guessing thats how i got the answer A or B and what its landing me on is B -1/10

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Could ya show your work so I can see where you're going wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x - 12y=9 3x=9 + 12y x=3 + 4y -3x + 2y =8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wai t i see i was getting mixed up its D

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Yup, you added 12y to both sides

OpenStudy (shamil98):

you don't have to use substitution.. just use elimination it's the simplest and fastest way.

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

See that both 3x and -3x cancel out..? then just add both equations and solve
