In my textbook it states that, "Like radicals have the same radicand and the same index." Radicand = \(\sqrt{x + 9}\) (x + 9 being the radicand.) What does it mean by, "index" though?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

I think it means the power. Like in this: \[\LARGE \sqrt[3]{27}\] The index would be 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

index is the root. square root has index of 2, cube root has index of 3, fourth root has index of 4 and so on
