OpenStudy (anonymous):

Who was the father of Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics?

OpenStudy (lilai3):

Calculus was "created" by Sir Isaac Newton.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

Geometry was already in existence in 3000 B.C. in ancient civilizations of Babylon and Egypt ,but was a nameless mathematical system.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

No one person created anything since it's a collaborative effort that spanned hundreds if not thousands of years. There is no single 'father' (or mother) of any branch of math or science.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am not sure about their parents

OpenStudy (lilai3):

According to Wikipedia, the Greeks founded algebra, but other sources say that ancient Babylonians and Egyptians.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

what jim said was right, but for calculus, i'm pretty sure it's isaac newton

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is kind of a trick question isn't it. Haha! I am not sure what my teacher wants

OpenStudy (lilai3):

well, what exactly did your teacher say? lol what a question

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lilai3, that may be true, but newton himself admitted that he "stood on the shoulders of giants" so he had help as well

OpenStudy (lilai3):

well..okay lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and besides, leibniz also may have added to calculus as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly as I said, Who was the father of Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics? That is what it says on my homework sheet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are all wrong, I am the father of Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

purplesnowman, the question is vague and very misleading for the reasons I stated above

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

try Eclid for geometry Newton or Libnitz for calculus Algebra comes from China and the Middle east the word Algebra come from Arabic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

loooool

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe I could list all of those people

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

campbell_st, Euclid may have had original ideas, but his works were mostly taken from ideas others have stated earlier in time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't make the question. I am just trying to solve it for my homework.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

his elements are highly cited though

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well he documented a lot of plane geometry...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't Euclid the father of geometry?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

and hence the name, Eucidian Geometry..

OpenStudy (abb0t):

It was me.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

abb0t, and who was the mother?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Also me.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So kind of had relation with yourself to produce Geometry Calculus and all that, I see, now it makes sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Al-Khwarizmi and Diophantus were the fathers of algebra right?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Can't you all read? I said, it was ME.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

who knows... its all supposition.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No, Abb0t and Abb0t. Same-sex marriages. they shouldn't be legal.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

@lilai3 Calculus started in Egypt before Newton, (Integral calculus). Isaac Newton created differential calculus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I guess I will just put Abb0t as my answer for all of them! Haha! That would be funny.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

abbot they just don't understand smh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't it frustrating!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I wonder how is it possible to have a relation with one's self? But I guess for Abb0t anything is possible, even that....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just don't know what to put for algebra and statistics

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Abb0t

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

He is father and mother of all of them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know but I don't think that my teacher will accept him as my answer.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Sure he/she will.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe if I had Abb0t as my teacher he would give me 100%.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@purplesnowman, google is the best, trust me!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I should just write down all of the answers I get from google?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Well, some answers you got here already.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher I found for the father of statistics.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

If not all, depending whether your teacher accepts for a certain type of math, for example geometry, "no one was the father".

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

if not all THE ANSWER

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am supposed to write a five paragraph essay about the fathers of math.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Doesn't that suck?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You are a good googler....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it is a MATH class not an ENGLISH class! I shouldn't have to write essays!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Sure you should not, your class is quite unique...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had to write a history paper for my computer tech class too! What is this world coming to!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sometimes I think that teachers can't remember what subject they are teaching.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I had to write for a science, but it was not that, it was for asking can I combine the following chemicals Fluorine Uranium Carbon and potassium. I think these were the four.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't need to know the fathers of math to be able to do math. This essay is worth 100 points!

OpenStudy (lilai3):

...go figure...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

ftw read backwards, dude, whatever....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I don't get what you are saying.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am basically saying wtf. there is something wrong with your class...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I'm out, b/c I am not helping, but interrupting.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Clinton, Miley Cyrus and Hugh Heffner.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice! I will have to write those ones down primeralph!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you tag someone in a post?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

_tag_{username}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tagprimeralph

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@purplesnowman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

_tag_{primeralph}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is not working

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Owned. I was just messing with you. Just put the @ symbol.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

|dw:1387850573711:dw|
