To evaluate a story is to pretty much read it, break it down and summarize it into a paper.  Research the main characters, the plot, how it develops as well as the location of where the story takes place, research the part that each character plays in the story and how it ties into to the subject matter or the plot.  What is the main issue of the story?  Please be more specific if you need further help as I also have not recently read it.
