Which mixture can be separated using filtration? Choose all answers that are correct. A. sand and water B. pebbles and sand C. sugar and water D. salt and water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. sand and water ( only if not mixed ) c. sugar and water ( only if they are not mixed) d. salt and water

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Filtration would be effective for the mixture of sand and water because the sand is not soluble in water and would not dissolve. Pebbles and sand would both not pass though a filtration system, so they would not be separated with this method unless the filter was more like a grate. Both sugar and salt dissolve in water and filtering would not separate them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) Sand and water (Normal Filtration by using any cloth or seive) b) Pebbles and Sand (A filtration done by a seive where the filtrate is solid it is probably called separation rather than filtration) c) Sugar and water (Ultrafiltration can work work on this according to mass of the molecule) d) Salt and water (Dia filtration can work on this according to Size of the molecule) so all will go under filtration process...
