broken down to release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere.

Carbon would not have a way to enter the bodies of living things.

Since plants like trees take in carbon dioxide (CO2), to make sugar (food also known as photosynthesis), then all living organisms like humans would have to take in carbon more and and oxygen less.
