OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Conversions @ranga can you give me a total of 6 conversions starting from basic and getting harder and harder... nothing like chemistry or physics... simply math based units. I will use the chart here: http://www.myteacherpages.com/webpages/stmoore/math.cfm?subpage=304939

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

1. How many seconds is in a day? 2. How many inches is in a mile? 3. How many tablespoons is in a gallon? 4. How many days is in a second? 5. How many mile is in an inch? 6. How many gallons is in a tablespoon?

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

1min/60sec * 1hr/60min Is that right so far?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

you converted second to minute to hour, but i'm asking for day :/

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Well I want to do this... 1min/60sec*1hr/60*1day/24hr = Or is this wrong?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

this is correct but i would write 1day/24hr*1hr/60min*1min/60sec (reversing the order of fractions)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

We would get the same answer though right?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

But I get this weird decimal.. .000011574

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

oh sorry it should be 60sec/1min*60min/1hr*24hr/1day :/

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Is 60 sec on top because that is our starting point?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yes :)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

So 86400sec/day

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep :)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

12in/1ft*5280ft/1mile = 63360in/mile

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep :)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

2ts/1foz*8foz/1cup*2cups/1pint*2pints/1quart*4quarts*1gallon = 256 tablespoons/gallon

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

@kc_kennylau can you please tell me what you mean by this: 4. How many days is in a second?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

It should be a decimal

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

ok

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

1day/24hr*1hr/60min*1min/60sec= 1/86400

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

1mile/5280ft*1ft/12in = 1/63360mi/in

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

1gallon/4quarts*1quart/2pint*1pint/2cups*1cup/8oz*1oz/2ts= 1/256 gallons/tablespoon

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Thank You so much!

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

You, sir, are indeed, a Math legend :D

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

yay!!
