if you're in a car that stops suddenly your body keep moving because it has . . .

mass in motion describes momentum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inertia

OpenStudy (zale101):

Momentum can be described as the movement of the body or the amount of force used to stop certain objects. If a heavy object runs at a higher speed then it has higher momentum. It is hard to stop it once it speeds because it takes too much force to stop because its momentum is high, but if the object is more lighter the momentum is less because it slows on it speeds and easily stopped. Hope i made it clear!

Because you are not an integral part of the vehicle and possess momentum. When the vehicle brakes you do not stop until something stops you or the momentum is absorbed.
