OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Here is the rule that your teacher never taught you: If the stressed vowel (second-last vowel) is "o", convert it to "ue". If the stressed vowel (second-last vowel) is "e", convert it to "ie".

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

This also applies to noun, for example the number nine, nove->nueve (Traces of nove can be found in november) novembre->noviembre (this time the stressed vowel is "e", so the "o" remains unchanged)

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Remember, it's the stressed vowel that changes, so "contamos" don't change to "cuentamos", since it's the "a" that is stressed. (Who said that exceptions are without rule? :p )
