Please help me out! *Medal + Fan + Testimonial!!* A carbohydrate molecule is: 1) a macromolecule made of amino acids that provides structure for a cell and is not soluble in water 2) made up of a chain of monosaccharides that transport genetic coding from one end of the cell to another 3) made up of the monosaccharide glucose and serves as an energy reserve in plants and animals 4) a chain of amino acids that can be used for protein synthesis, protection, and increasing reaction speeds
Literally, a carbohydrate molecule is a molecule which contains carbon and hydrogen. In practice, it also contains oxygen. Carbohydrates are the fuel supply of the world. Sunshine plus photosynthesis turns carbon from the air (carbon dioxide) plus hydrogen (from h2o water) into carbohydrate -- sugar or starch plant food. We eat plants, and we eat meats from animals which eat plants, and so photosynthesis is the method by which we fuel out bodies, too. When we burn wood, or oil, or gasoline, or coal, we're burning carbohydrates which were, directly or indirectly, the result of photosynthesis. So you might say all fuel energy on earth is stored sunshine. That should help you, and http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/biol115/wyatt/biochem/carbos.htm :)
