OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let f(x) = -4x + 7 and g(x) = 10x - 6, find f(g(x)).

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

Do you have an idea of how to begin?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Plug in g(x) where ever there is an x in f(x)..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea where to start

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, so first, do you know what f(g(x)) means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) becomes the X part of the f(x) function ?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

yep, this is called a composition. so, basically with this problem you plug and chug until it is as simple as you can get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its f(x)=-4(10x-6)+7?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

yup, now you need to simplify

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

aka get rid of the parentheses somehow, and combine like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im at f(x)= -40x+31?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

that is 100% correct good work!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for your help!

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

but just semantics, you want to write f(g(x)) not f(x)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

np good luck with your class!
