What was American foreign policy between 1890- 1920?

OpenStudy (baby456):

The period of 1890 to 1920 encompasses the period of time that most generally could be described as a change of the United States from a very regional power to a dominant world power. It began with an expanding U.S. role in the Carribean and Central america including the annexation of Hawaii (not carribean or central America, but falls into this period nonetheless), victory in the Spanish-American war and subsequent acquisition of Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines. This marked the almost complete removal of the Spanish from from the Americas and Southeast Asia/Oceania. In 1904, Teddy Roosevelt added the Roosevelt Corallary to the Monroe Doctrine, which basically stated that the U.S. could intervene in Central and Latin American countries to stabilize them if it was in U.S. interest, and basically kicked Europe out of the entire hemisphere, making it under the U.S.'s sphere of influence, and creating the first area of the world under a U.S. hegemony. "This period ultimate culminated in WWI when the U.S. intervened in a war across the ocean and became one of the dominant world powers".
