Classify the system and determine the number of solutions. (Check all that apply.) 5x - y = -3 15x - 3y = -9 dependent no solution inconsistent independent consistent infinitely many solutions

OpenStudy (ranga):

If you multiply the first equation by 3 throughout, you get the second equation. So they are not really two different equations. They are dependent equations. They are one and the same equation. So one equation and two unknowns. That means you can pick any value for one variable and then use one of the equations to find the value of the other variable. So there are infinitely many solutions.

Ok so i should check dependent & infinitely many?

OpenStudy (ranga):

I would include consistent as well. So dependent, consistent and infinitely many solutions.
